The lecture sketches the outline of central developments still relevant today: urban growth and development, social segregation and housing, urban planning and the city as central site of political contest. Friedrich Lenger is the recipient of the prestigious Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2015. Reception to follow.
