Reconciling the difficulty of residential schooling requires both academic inquiry and public engagement. Jim Miller (University of Saskatchewan)'s keynote talk is aimed at the specialist, but framed in non-specialist language – it is meant to draw both the academy and public together in dialogue over a complex and concerning policy/practice in Canadian history.
